The Story Behind FoodMaroc
FoodMaroc was born from a personal experience.
I am Moroccan, and I currently live in Canada. Before leaving Morocco, Moroccan food was simply part of everyday life for me. I grew up surrounded by its flavors, dishes, ingredients and traditions without always realizing how rich and diverse they really were.
After immigrating and living far from Morocco, I started to see Moroccan cuisine differently. I began to appreciate things that I had once taken for granted: the diversity of Moroccan dishes, the regional differences, the spices, the ingredients, the way food brings families together, and the important role that hospitality plays in Moroccan culture.
Living abroad made me realize that Moroccan cuisine deserves to be better known around the world.
FoodMaroc is my way of sharing that discovery.
I am not a professional chef, and FoodMaroc is not intended to present me as one. Instead, it is a platform created by a Moroccan who wants to introduce the world to the food culture of Morocco through authentic stories, recipes, ingredients, traditions and culinary experiences.
The main audience is international visitors and travelers interested in Morocco, especially people who want to understand what to eat, what Moroccan dishes mean, where they come from, and how food is connected to Moroccan culture.
The website will be available in English and French, with a strong focus on making Moroccan cuisine accessible to people who may know very little about it.
FoodMaroc should feel more like a journey through Morocco’s food culture than a simple recipe website.
The goal is to help someone who has never been to Morocco discover its cuisine before their trip, and to help someone who has already visited Morocco understand and rediscover the dishes and flavors they experienced.
The long-term vision is to build FoodMaroc into an international reference for Moroccan food and culinary culture — a place where people can discover Moroccan recipes, ingredients, regional specialties, food traditions and culinary experiences in an authentic and accessible way.
